The objective of this article is to present and reflect on two multimodal didactic activities that were planned and carried out during remote teaching, in partnership with the Institutional Teaching Initiation Scholarship Program (PIBID Letters – Portuguese Language), for the discipline of Portuguese Language, in two state schools in the city of Santa Maria, RS. This article presents a brief report and contextualization about the agent that caused the pandemic, whose consequence was the suspension of face-to-face classes, a fact that generated the use of online platforms to make emergency remote teaching possible. For this new teaching/learning modality and in order to encompass the teaching contents, activities were planned by the supervising teachers and by the academics of the Letters Course – Portuguese, from the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), participants of the PIBID Letters – Portuguese Language. Such activities were developed following a proposal of critical reading from the perspective of multiliteracies. It can be concluded that the multimodal practice in teaching provides means for the formation of more critical citizens, capable of understanding different social contexts and, consequently, expressing an opinion on them effectively.
