This article falls within the scope of PIBID and aims to analyze the conception that students of a sixth grade have of the portuguese language curricular component and examine the issue of portuguese teaching in Brazil, mainly in relation to normative grammar teaching. We analyzed a corpus consisting of data obtained in a survey carried out in loco, from the application of 20 forms that aim to recognize and understand the sociolinguistic reality of the class in question, in addition to verifying how they conceive the mother language teaching. The results point to a grammatical conception of the curricular component on the part of the students, as well as a strong attachment to the notion of right and wrong in language.
