Abstract

This article discusses the application of law no. 10.639 / 03, in the pedagogical practice of teachers at the Antonio Gröhs State School, in the municipality of Água Boa - MT. The objective is to relate through a case study or development of educational activities that take place in classes, both in elementary and high school, considering that the revision of the law determines the obligation to teach Afro-Brazilian history and culture. The methodology used was based on quantitative research, carried out through practical classes in reading and interpreting African and Afro-Brazilian tales. We used the Federal Law 10.639 / 03, Law of Directives and Bases of National Education - LDBEN, or Curricular Reference Document for Mato Grosso - DRC-MT as a research source. As a theoretical foundation, he used authors such as Cosson (2009), Freire (1992), Gomes (2005), Quijano (2010) and Santos (2009). It appears that teaching African and Afro-Brazilian literature is possible, necessary and transformative.
