Abstract

Abstract: University management is administered by effective teachers of the institution. Thus, the teacher who, in addition to teaching, researcher and extensionist, also assumes the role of manager, uniting the administrative activities proper to management, with the activities he already plays in the other roles, is called manager teacher. The present research aimed to analyze the management competencies associated with the role of the managing teacher at UNIPAMPA campus Santana do Livramento/RS. This is a narrative study, qualitative approach and descriptive nature. To achieve the proposed objective, semi-structured interviews were conducted with teachers who play or played the role of manager teacher in the last five years at the institution. The interviews were recorded and analyzed through interpretative analysis. The analyzed data showed that the role of the manager teacher in the institution is directly related to the development of courses and campus, process management, strategic planning, the ability to deal with people, the ability to mediate conflicts and reconcile interests and carry out administrative and bureaucratic activities. The data also showed that the managers teachers have developed much of the management skills necessary for those who assume a management position, but still need to develop others and that this development process occurs through continuous training and management in practice. The research also revealed that they face difficulties and challenges in the day-to-day management and showed the importance of organizational policies that contribute to their role performance.
