BUROCRACY AND PRAXIS: A CRITICISM TO THE BUROCRATIC RATIONAL ORGANIZATION

Abstract

This essay defends the argument that bureaucracy as a structure of reproductive domination of capitalist social relations operates as a disciplinary force in praxis. To this end, the work revisits the work of Weber (2012), Economy and Society, in its concepts of social action and domination, to understand what the author defines as rational legal domination, whose administrative framework is bureaucracy. Bureaucracy is an orderly system of command and subordination, which operates according to impersonal criteria and rational methods. Its characteristics result of a rationalization intrinsic to the capitalist production system. As a domination structure that seeks to ensure and safeguard the control of capital over the social body, it formalizes the practice to operates mechanically. Thus, due it spreads to the most diverse spheres of social life, because the large group of organizations that govern society follows this model, praxis, as a human social activity linked to the historical process and to the possible, is bureaucratized and impoverished.
