REPORT ON AN EXPERIENCE AT A CRAS IN PARINTINS, AMAZONAS

Abstract

This article presents an account of experiences at a Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS) located in the municipality of Parintins, Amazonas. This account arose from the need to reflect on the role of social workers in the context of basic social protection, considering the challenges and lessons learned during institutional observation. This is a descriptive and qualitative study based on field experience and institutional analysis. The study highlights the relevance of the work of social workers in guaranteeing rights and implementing the National Social Assistance Policy, emphasizing CRAS as the main gateway to the Unified Social Assistance System (SUAS). In addition to reporting on the experience, the article briefly discusses the limitations and potential of professional practice in the context of the dismantling of public policies and the intensification of social vulnerabilities. It concludes that the work of social workers is essential for the realization of citizenship, and that it is necessary to strengthen public policies and value interdisciplinary work in social assistance units
