THE INTEREST OF SOCIAL WORK IN THE AGRARIAN QUESTION AS A FIELD OF RESEARCH

Abstract

The agrarian question is a problem that demands its relevance because it is one of the key elements for understanding the historical formation of Brazil, as it determines the current national situation. A range of contradictions and a set of inequalities observed in the present have their invisible links to the agrarian question. This, consequently, challenges Social Work in its professional practice. Although it is a profession that was constituted and instituted by its practical-interventionist dimension, Social Work has stood out, since the Professional Renewal, in the field of knowledge production, especially through the Postgraduate Programs it organizes. The agrarian question has gained importance in the last 10 (ten) years as a field of interest for the development of research and knowledge production within Social Work. This article aims to problematize how the agrarian question assumes increasing interest for the profession. To this end, it starts from the meaning of the problem that shapes the agrarian question and arrives at the interest of Social Work in the production of knowledge in this thematic field, particularly in the Northeast.
