THE SOUTH AMERICAN REGIONAL INTEGRATION: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS BETWEEN UNASUR AND PROSUL

Abstract
The 21st century consecrated for South America a maturation of relations between States, formalizing the constitution of the first international organization at a regional level, the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), in 2008. The institution made advances in many issues since formation to strategies over eleven years of activities. However, with domestic crises in many countries, the foreign policy agenda of the members changed, leading to an institutional abandonment of UNASUR. Since then, the governments organized the Declaration of the Forum for Progress and Development in South America (Prosul) as a way to meet the requirement in relation to integration in the region. This research proposes the analysis of the evolution of regional integration in the South America from 2008 at the creation of UNASUR until 2021 with the creation of Prosul meetings. Also, this research use bibliographic reviews of books and magazines, newspapers, official documents and websites as a way to understanding both historical foundations and the current situation of regional integration in South America. This way, expect to contribute to the debate and research on regional integration.
